‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Cast, Rian Johnson Visit Kimmel

The ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ host used a movie analogy to illustrate the Flynn-Trump-Mueller relationship before welcoming on the ‘Last Jedi’ cast.

Because Friday was Star Wars night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, host Jimmy Kimmel decided to use a Darth Vader analogy to illustrate the relationship between President Donald Trump and his former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Opening his show on the “bigly” story of the day, and perhaps the year, Kimmel summarized how Flynn pled guilty to lying to the FBI about his communications with the Russia ambassador. The plea makes Flynn the first Trump White House official to face criminal charges and admit guilt amid the election investigation being conducted by special counsel Robert Mueller, a probe Flynn will now be cooperating in.

Replaying a past clip of Flynn saying if he did “one-tenth” of what Hillary Clinton did he would be in jail today, Kimmel said, “I guess he did a tenth of what she did and he’s going to be in jail today.”

According to court papers, Flynn knows the identities of at least two members of Trump’s transition team who were aware of his contacts with Russia in the weeks leading up to Trump’s inauguration. Though they weren’t named, Mueller’s prosecutors indicated they were within Trump’s inner circle.

Bringing up a report that one of those officials is believed to be Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, Kimmel then segued into his Star Wars analogy to illustrate the potential consequences of the Flynn development.

Showing a clip from Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker, who is getting electrocuted, is meant to represent Mueller. Darth Vader is meant to represent Flynn and Emperor Palpatine, who is doing the electrocuting, is meant to be Trump. In the scene, Darth Vader throws Palpatine into the Death Star.

“Flynn used to take orders from Trump but his allegiance is flipped now, so he might be about to pick Trump up and throw him down a shaft into the Death Star,” said Kimmel. “Now I guess we just wait for the other shoe to drop.”

Kimmel then welcomed the sprawling cast of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, led by Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver and director Rian Johnson, to talk about the upcoming installment, which debuts Dec. 15. The only spoiler Johnson would dish out was the first spoken word in the movie.
