TLC Boss Defends Carter Oosterhouse Amid Sexual Assault Allegations

“At the end of the day, we feel very comfortable continuing with Carter in the show,” said Nancy Daniels of the reality star appearing on the ‘Trading Spaces’ reboot.

TLC is defending Trading Spaces star Carter Oosterhouse amid sexual assault allegations.

The network’s president and general manager Nancy Daniels told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that despite the fact that the the carpenter turned reality TV star has been accused of coerced oral sex by a makeup artist on his HGTV show Carter Can, he will still appear on Trading Spaces when the home-improvement series returns in the Spring.

“We did look into the allegations. We also looked into everything that we did throughout our production on this [run] of Trading Spaces, and we take it all very seriously,” said Daniels on stage at the Langham Hotel ballroom in Pasadena, Calif. “At the end of the day, we feel very comfortable continuing with Carter in the show.”

When the schedule for the network’s TCA day was first released, Oosterhouse was listed as a panelist for the 30-minute-long Trading Spaces panel, alongside other familiar faces from the show including Paige Davis and Ty Pennington. When asked why the reality show personality wasn’t on stage, Daniels noted that they attempted to have him there but that he was unfortunately “unavailable to attend today.”

In a December story in The Hollywood Reporter , makeup artist Kailey Kamisky claimed that she acquiesced to Oosterhouse’s demands for oral sex during production on his HGTV series when he threatened her employment. She said that the experience led to her becoming hospitalized for depression and resulted in her losing her job. In response, Oosterhouse called the accusation “upsetting,” and acknowledged “an intimate relationship” with Kaminsky that he contends “was 100 percent mutual.”
