Melania Trump is forced to skip a climate change event on Friday due to protesters outside her hotel in Hamburg.
Her spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, told reporters, “Hamburg police couldn’t provide clearance for us to leave,” according to CNN. Melania was scheduled to join other spouses of G-20 leaders at an event at the German Climate Computing Center, organized by Joachim Sauer, the husband of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Donald and Melania arrived in Hamburg on Thursday ahead of the G-20 summit, which takes place Friday and Saturday. They reportedly scrambled to find somewhere to stay because White House officials apparently took too long to book a hotel, according to BuzzFeed.
Anti-capitalist protesters took over the streets of Hamburg on Thursday, burning cars and throwing stones.
Melania took to Twitter to address the protests, writing, “Thinking of those hurt in #Hamburg protests. Hope everyone stay safe! #G20”
